[Technical staff staff hands-on] Looking Glass Development Kit

What is this?

3D display.

What can i do?

3D display of 3D model can be realized on a desktop size display.

You can use LeapMotion (the black device at the bottom of the photo) to create a more interactive experience (simulating touching a 3D model, moving the model by hand).

For developers?

An SDK is provided so that you can create your own content with Unity. The created content can be published on the manufacturer's platform.

What I found out by using

Certainly, the 3D model is moving in front of you. It is also novel that the appearance changes depending on the parallax (you can see the side of the model), but somehow it can not be denied a sober impression. There is a high possibility that it will turn into an object if you leave it normally. Collaboration with Leap Motion is interesting.

Requires considerable GPU resources for model operation. For the best image quality, RTX 2080Ti is just right. Even so, if you output from the same card as the main display, the operation will be cluttered, so dual GPU configuration is better. It is not easy to prepare an operating environment with such specifications. You can reduce the load by lowering the image quality, but the experience is impaired (the difference in the fineness of the model can be seen at a glance).

Other miscellaneous notes

At the moment, I strongly felt that it was an experimental device. It might be a good technical demonstration, but how to put it into practical use. I would like to see such things in the successor products.
