Introducing a machine to use "Pupil Core" comfortably

Procurement of overseas products for R & D and PC production service with optimal configuration for its use

Custom-made PC production service "Tegusis"Overseas product procurement and consulting service for R & D"UniposIt is possible only because Tegara provides two types of services, ""Purchasing overseas products for R & D and manufacturing custom PCs optimized for their useWe would like to introduce a one-stop service called ".

For example, a PC is required to run the software, and specialized software may have the necessary conditions (* memory capacity, installation of a high-end video card, etc.).One of Tegara's strengths is that we can provide a set of products procured from overseas and the most suitable PC for their operation, eliminating the need to search for a PC that meets such conditions.

This time, a headset equipped with an eye tracking camera + subjective viewpoint camera from Pupil Lab, which is handled by Unipos. Pupil Core And we will show you the machine suitable for that use.

Pupil Core about

Pupil Core Is a wearable (head-mounted) video-based eye tracking (contactless) that records images in the eye area with one or more cameras. It is equipped with an eye tracking camera (Eye Camera) that tracks the movement of the pupil and a subjective viewpoint camera (World Camera) that tracks what is visible to the person wearing the Pupil Core (the line of sight of the wearer).

* Reference: What is eye tracking?

All systems that measure signals from the eyeball, such as eye movement (location of viewpoint), blinking, and pupil size, using a device called an eye tracker or eye camera are called "eye tracking".
Eye tracking methods are roughly divided into contact type, in which a contact lens with a built-in coil is attached to the eyeball, and non-contact type, in which an infrared light source or an optical sensor is applied to take a picture with a camera and acquire data.

Pupil Core is made of PA12 (polyamide 12), which has low moisture absorption, flexibility and cold impact resistance, and weighs only 22.75g.For this reason, the burden of wearing and moving for a long time is relatively small.

In addition to wearables, video-based eye tracking systems are also remote (stationary).

The subject can move freely and can be involved in the real environment and VR environment. Subject sits in front of the display and is almost stationary
The front camera collects and analyzes the tasks performed by the subject and the changing visual scenes (movement of the line of sight with respect to people and objects in the field of view) during interaction. Analysis based on eye movements on screen content (eg websites, games, pupil mice, etc.) and processing for user interaction

By utilizing a dedicated application that can be downloaded from the manufacturer's site, it is possible to record, play back, and visualize and analyze recorded data.

About dedicated software

For recording Pupil Capture isReads the video stream coming from the two cameras.Use the incoming video stream to stream data in real time, including pupil detection, line-of-sight movement, and detection and tracking of markers in your environment.

Pupil PlayerIs a media and data visualizer-centric tool that is used next to Pupil Capture.Extend the functionality by loading and playing recorded data and using the plug-in framework to make the gaze measurement data easier to understand and understand.

In addition, loading the visualization plug-in * enables visualization, marker tracking, export, and analysis of recorded data. You can also add custom functionality by creating a plugin in Python.

* For details on plug-ins such as Vis Circle, Vis Cross, Vis Polyline, Vis Light Points, Vis Eye Video Overlay, Surface Tracker, Fixation Detector, etc., please refer to the following website.

Use of eye tracking

Eye tracking (eye tracker eye tracking data), which can track the size of the pupil and eye movement when looking at an object, is related to human behavior and psychological state by analyzing it alone or in association with visual stimuli and scenes. It helps you to gain a wealth of knowledge.
It is expected to be used for a wide variety of research purposes, from psychology to medicine, linguistics, computer science, marketing performance support, industrial fields, human-computer interaction (HCI) research, and VR fove rendering.

  • Neuroscience
Analyzing eye movements, visual processing, and eye behavior patterns on how information obtained from vision is transmitted to nerves and the brain
  • Psychology
Reading, art, visual exploration, framing, environment, verbal hearing, deep psychology such as emotional changes and cognition due to eye movements, developmental psychology
  • Industrial field
Human Factors (Human Behavior Characteristics) in Industrial / Aviation Sector and Automated Driving, Cause Investigation of Human Error, Danger Recognition, Visualization of Unconscious Movement
  • Marketing field
Dynamic advertising such as digital signage, leaflets, package design, promotional materials, advertising texts such as copywriting and catch phrase, market research, advertising research, etc., consumer sentiment, behavioral characteristics and reactions

Pupil CoreAbout the machine with the optimum configuration for use

We have prepared a dedicated PC so that users can use Pupil Core smoothly.

Since the premise of using Pupil Core is a wired connection with a computer, in this configuration, the processing performance at the time of use is prioritized over the portability of the computer. It is also intended for use in measurements that do not involve movement of the user, such as eye tracking on the screen.
In addition, a small housing (compact middle tower) that takes into consideration the installation space within the range that does not interfere with the operation is adopted, and a display that assumes the measurement of the line of sight when visually recognizing the display is also included.

Example of front terminal of middle tower * Design and specifications differ depending on the PC case.

When using, connect Pupil Core to a PC via USB 2.0 and use it for recording, playback, and verification of line-of-sight data on software such as Pupil Capture and Pupil Player.
