A customer engaged in the research and development of liquid crystal displays asked us for a machine that runs the optical design software "Zemax OpticStudio" at high speed. It is intended for use in lens design and simulation of backlight technology.
Currently, you are using a machine equipped with Ryzen Threadripper3 3970X, and you are requesting performance equal to or greater than that, and the selection conditions are as follows.
・CPU: 32 cores or more (Because I heard that Zemax works best with 32 cores) |
Based on the above conditions, we proposed the following configuration.
【Main Specifications】
CPU | AMD Ryzen ThreadripperPRO 5975WX (3.60GHz 32 cores) |
memory | 128GB |
storage | 1TB SSD S-ATA |
video | Geforce GTX1660S |
network | on board (1GbE x1 10GBase-T x1) |
Housing + power supply | Middle tower case + 1000W |
OS | Microsoft Windows 11 Pro 64 bit |
From our company, we examined and proposed the configuration within the budget.
■ Points ・For Threadripper3 3970X, select a new generation CPU. ・As for the video card, we selected GTX1660Super, which is readily available at the time of the proposal. |
Regarding the point that "Zemax works optimally with 32 cores", I am telling you the following opinion.
Zemax does not support more than 64 threads because the cores are divided into processor groups when it exceeds 64 threads. |
The configuration of this case study is based on the conditions given by the customer.
Please feel free to contact us even if you are considering different conditions from what is posted.
