A high-speed camera capable of continuous shooting at high speed (high frame rate) is a product that enables slow-motion shooting required in a wide range of fields, from verification at research and development sites and production sites to video production. am.
This time, among such high-speed cameras, we also handle overseas product procurement service Unipos, which is compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand, but capable of high resolution and shooting at speeds of 1000 fps or more.Chronos High-Speed Cameras” will be introduced.
This page introduces the shooting procedure of Chronos.

Shooting image of Chronos High-Speed Camera
Below is a demo video recording the moment a water drop falls using Chronos 1.4.
Focus on your subject, set the exposure, and shoot. Then, check the captured image on the camera display, specify the start point (Mark In) and end point (Mark Out) to be saved, and save the movie.
After watching this video, you can imagine how easy it is to shoot with Chronos.
Let's start shooting!
First of all, we had an image of the shooting procedure in the demo video, but then we presented the manufacturer First Recording – Cheat Sheet for your Fist Recording! In line with the contents of (*), we will introduce the shooting procedure.
*Original documents can be found here (PDF Download : Page 16)
Chronos is equipped with a touch panel display and can be operated with a GUI.The content of this article is an introduction to the shooting procedure using the GUI operation of this touch panel.
As for other operation methods, there is also a web browser-based interface (Network Control) (*View more : move to the bottom of the page).

1. Recording settings (resolution and frame rate)
In Chronos, the relationship between resolution and frame rate is inversely proportional, lowering resolution allows higher frame rate, and lowering frame rate allows higher resolution.Select the setting according to the subject to be shot and the purpose of the shot image.
Setting resolution and frame rate
- Tap the text box in the resolution input field and enter the resolution
- The Region of Interest display screen shows the image size that can be obtained within the maximum resolution of the image sensor.
- Frame rate is adjustable from 60fps to the maximum size displayed at the bottom of the region of interest display
2. Performing black calibration
Perform black calibration to maximize image quality. Chronos automatically subtracts a black reference image from every frame it captures to compensate for pixel variations introduced by the image sensor.
Black calibration procedure
- Let the camera run for 15-25 minutes to bring it up to operating temperature
- Close the iris completely or put on the lens cap
- Tap the "Black Cal" button on the main screen
3. Lens and focus adjustment
In order to maximize the focus on the shooting target, perform the appropriate focus setting according to the lens used.
Example : COMPUTAR 12.5-75mm lens (option selection standard lens in Chronos 1.4)
… Aperture value of F2 or higher
4. White balance setting
Do a white card test and choose the right white balance light source for a neutral 'white'.
White card test procedure
- Select "White Balance" and choose the preset that most closely matches the type of light you're using from the dropdown menu
- By placing a piece of white paper in front of the lens and selecting "Set Custom", the correction is automatically estimated to achieve the ideal neutral white.
- (Advanced) By using "Custom Color Matrix" for more flexible settings, you can fine-tune each element of the color transformation matrix.
5. Start/stop recording
Tap "Record" on the main screen or press the record button on top of the camera to start recording. In standard recording mode, the camera will continue recording until the next button press stops recording (the camera's record button is a toggle type - each press will start/stop).
[Reference] External trigger
The following 3 types of connectors are installed for trigger cable connection.
・The BNC Connector (input/output)
・The Phoenix connector (Green or Black) (input/output)
・The Phoenix connector (Green or Black) (Input 3 – Isolated)
In external trigger mode, "Toggle Trigger", "Record End Trigger" and "Exposure Trigger" are provided as trigger selection options.
6. Checking the captured video
By tapping the “Play” button on the main screen to access the playback menu, you can immediately check the captured footage on the Chronos display. For this, I think the demo video I introduced earlier is easier to understand.
- With the "Left/Right" button at the top of the playback menu, it is possible to advance or return the video at the frame rate specified in the Play Rate Box.
- Use the on-screen slider or built-in jog wheel for smooth video review
- "Up/Down" button allows you to adjust the playback frame rate from 10fps to 1920fps
About saving videos
It can be saved in the following formats
- Compressed H.264 (mp4)
- RAW
- CinemaDNG
- TIFF formats
As a storage destination, you can use a storage (recording device) connected by USB or eSATA, in addition to the SD Card inserted in the main unit. After opening the save setting menu and selecting the save location (target device), use the "Mark Start/Mark End" button in the playback menu to select the range of the video you want to save and save.
[Reference] About Network Control
Parameters such as frame rate, resolution, shutter speed, save format, recording mode and triggers can be controlled via the web interface. You can also use your own API to trigger the camera and live stream him at 60fps.
For Network Control, settings to connect the camera and computer are required (Ethernet or USB connection). For details, see the FAQ page on the manufacturer's website.Using Network ControlPlease see the item.
Summary
Lastly, I would like to introduce a slow-motion product video shot using Chronos 2.1-HD and a demonstration video of what kind of footage was shot on the manufacturer's Youtube channel.
This time, I introduced the basic shooting procedure as the first step in shooting with Chronos.Because it is an overseas product, I think it is one of the important concerns before purchasing whether we can eliminate the concerns such as "How will it be used?" and "Is it difficult to use?"
The previous Features of the high-speed camera "Chronos" and how to choose a model We hope that this article will serve as a reference for those considering Chronos High-Speed Camera.
