EEG machine

A customer involved in cognitive brain science research asked us about a PC for experiments on EEG measurement when using VR.
I would like a configuration with higher performance than the specs of the PC I am currently using.

[Specs of the PC currently in use]
・CPU: Core i7-7700
・ Memory: 16GB
・Storage: SSD 250GB, HDD 1TB
・Video: NVIDIA Geforce GTX1080

The OS is Windows 10, and it is necessary to have one serial port and one parallel port for connection with external devices.

Based on the conditions you contacted us, we proposed the following configuration.

CPU Core i7-13700 (2.10GHz 8-core + 1.50GHz 8-core) x2
memory 32GB
Storage 1 1TB M.2 SSD
Storage 2 4TB HDD S-ATA
video NVIDIA Geforce RTX4080
network on board (2.5GBase-T x1) Wi-Fi x1
Housing + power supply Tower type housing + 1000W
OS Microsoft Windows 10 Professional 64bit
Others Additional parallel port x1, serial port x2

This is a proposal for a configuration that enhances performance while following the specifications of the PC currently in use.
The latest version of the same Core i7 is selected for the CPU, and the memory and storage capacity are increased.

The video card is RTX1080, inheriting the same "x080" rank as the GTX4080 of your PC.The specs have improved considerably due to the generation difference, so if the specs are excessive for the display capacity on the VR side, there is a plan to change to the RTX4070.

As for the parallel port, it belongs to the old generation standard, and there is no motherboard with the latest specification that has the parallel port as standard. Therefore, in this example, it is supported by installing an additional card.
The serial port has 1 port extended from the onboard pin connector to the back of the PC on the motherboard and 1 port mounted on the parallel port expansion card, so a total of 2 ports are prepared.
It seems that it will be the I/O for receiving stimulus triggers, so we have selected products that have been certified (WHQL) for the Windows that we plan to use.

Since the I/O port is supported by an expansion card, it is assumed that even if the conditions of the main unit specifications change, it can be supported to some extent.
We will consider the configuration according to your wishes, such as your budget and usage (for example, the specifications required for VR).

The configuration of this case study is based on the conditions given by the customer.
Please feel free to contact us even if you are considering different conditions from what is posted.

・What is a parallel port?
A parallel port is a type of interface standard for connecting computers and peripherals. Widely used in the 1980s and 1990s, it was used to connect printers, scanners, external storage, etc. Also called a Centronics interface, the maximum data transfer speed is about 5 Mbps. Now that USB and network connections have become mainstream, parallel ports are almost out of use.

・What is a serial port?
A serial port is an interface standard for connecting computers and peripheral devices. Data is transferred bit by bit using a single data line. Known for the RS-1C standard, it has been widely used since the 1s.It was used for mice, modems, terminals, etc., and connected external devices directly to the PC.It is now mostly obsolete, but some remain for backward compatibility and dedicated devices. As a simple but stable communication interface, the serial port played an important role until computers became popular in general households. It was later replaced by USB, which is faster and easier to use.
