A customer involved in robot manipulation research contacted us to inquire about a PC for customizing and using the collaborative robot "xArm." They wanted the optimal PC configuration to connect and control two sets of xArm, and the pre-installation of the software required for control. In addition, the condition for connecting the xArm was that it be compatible with both wired and wireless LAN.
In response to the customer's requests, we proposed the following configuration:
CPU | Core i9-14900KF (3.20GHz 8-core)+(2.40GHz 16-core) |
memory | 64GB (32GB x 2) |
storage | 2TB SSD M.2 NVMe Gen4 |
Video | NVIDIA Geforce RTX4090 24GB |
network | on board (2.5GBase-T x1) Wi-Fi x1 |
Housing + power supply | Middle tower type housing + 1000W |
OS | Ubuntu 22.04 |
Other | Additional wired LAN card 27-inch wide WQHD LCD display Python-based SDKs + libraries |
Customised for your device
In anticipation of machine learning using information collected from xArm, the GPU used is the NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4090. The RTX 4090 is one of the best-in-class video cards currently on the market in terms of simple processing performance, so we can expect high performance in machine learning.
For wired LAN and wireless LAN, an environment is required to connect two sets of xArm. In addition to the one standard port on the motherboard, a total of two wired LAN ports are realized by adding a LAN card. For wireless LAN, it is assumed that the standard function of the motherboard will be used.
Setup to meet your needs
As you requested, we would like to pre-install the software necessary for control. The proposal included the installation of each Python-based SDK (Software Development Kit) and library for controlling and developing xArm and peripheral devices.
In addition, after considering the compatibility of the OS for this configuration with various libraries and consulting with the customer, we decided to adopt Ubuntu 22.04.
The configuration of this case study is based on the conditions given by the customer.
Please feel free to contact us even if you are considering different conditions from what is posted.
■ KeywordsWhat is xArm? This industrial robot arm was developed by UFactory to improve product productivity and quality. It can be easily operated without coding using the dedicated application xArm Studio, and the xArm SDK, which supports Python, ROS, and C++, is also provided. |
