A client involved in drug discovery-related work consulted us about introducing a PC for WES (whole exome sequencing) and long-read sequence analysis. In addition to NGS analysis, it is also expected to be used for deep learning.
The budget is 150 million yen, and the conditions are on-premise use in a room with 100V power. In terms of hardware, there is a possibility of adding a video card and memory in the future, and in terms of software, the client requested pre-installation of CUDA Toolkit. As an option, they are also requesting on-site installation support.
Based on these conditions, we proposed the following configuration.
CPU | AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7960X (4.20GHz 24 cores) |
memory | 128GB REG ECC (32GB x 4) |
Storage 1 | 2TB SSD M.2 NVMe Gen4 |
Storage 2 | 8TB HDD S-ATA |
Video | NVIDIA Geforce RTX4090 24GB |
network | on board (2.5GBase-T x1) Wi-Fi x1 |
Housing + power supply | Tower type housing + 1200W |
OS | Ubuntu 22.04 |
Other | CUDA Toolkit 11 pre-installed *The reference price includes the free "Peace of Mind + 3-year warranty" and on-site installation work (paid). |
Configurations to suit your needs and budget
Assuming that analysis processing will be performed using a GPU, we adopted the GeForce RTX4090 24GB, which offers benefits in terms of both performance and cost.
For the CPU, we chose the Ryzen Threadripper 7960X 24-core, which has the most cores of any product available within our budget.
Points to note regarding future spec upgrades
In a 100V power supply environment, it is difficult to install a second GPU (RTX2) due to power consumption, so we propose a configuration that does not take into consideration adding a GPU.
Please contact us if you plan to use it in a 200V environment or if you plan to use a different GPU.
Regarding memory, all four memory slots are in use and there are no free slots. Therefore, if you want to increase the memory capacity, you will need to remove the pre-installed 4GB memory module and replace it with a module with a larger capacity.
In this case, we will prioritize the initial specifications and installation environment, but we are also happy to accept inquiries that emphasize expandability.
Various support proposals
"Young Researcher Support Campaign"As it was eligible for the campaign,Free peace of mind + 3-year warranty (standard 1-year warranty)I made the following suggestion.
You can choose either A or B as the campaign benefits.
Benefit A | 5% discount on custom-made PCs for research and development and related services |
Bonus B | Free 3-year extended warranty for PCs (standard warranty period: 1 year) |
In addition, according to customer requests,On-site installation supportPlease feel free to contact us if you have any requests regarding delivery and installation on-site.
The configuration of this case study is based on the conditions given by the customer.
Please feel free to contact us even if you are considering different conditions from what is posted.
■ Keywords・What is WES (Whole Exome Sequencing)? A technology that performs sequence analysis on the protein translation region of the genome, known as the exon. It is known that many mutations that cause genetic diseases exist in this protein translation region. Compared to WGS (whole genome sequencing), the scope of analysis is narrower, which reduces costs and analysis time. |
