A customer involved in the research and development of electrical components contacted us for a PC to perform electromagnetic field analysis and thermal fluid analysis. With a budget of around 100-150 million yen, they wanted a machine configuration that would be compatible with Femtet.
The specific specifications that the customer is considering are as follows:
OS: Windows 11 64-bit version
CPU: 20 cores or so
Memory: 128-256GB
Graphics card: NVIDIA T400 or NVIDIA RTX A2000
Storage: 1TB or more
Based on the information you provided, we have proposed the following configuration.
CPU | Intel Xeon W7-3545 2.70GHz (up to 3.0GHz at TB4.8) 24C/48T |
memory | Total 512GB DDR5 5600 REG ECC 64GB x 8 |
storage | 1TB SSD M.2 NVMe Gen4 + 4TB SSD M.2 NVMe Gen4 |
Video | NVIDIA RTX2000 Ada 16GB (MiniDisplayPort x4) |
network | on board (1GbE x1 /10GbE x1) |
Housing + power supply | Mid-tower case 1000W 80PLUS PLATINUM |
OS | Microsoft Windows 11 Professional 64bit |
When using Femtet with a CPU with 8 or more cores, memory bandwidth (memory read/write speed) is given priority over the number of CPU cores.
Generally speaking, memory bandwidth increases with the number of memory channels.
When equipped with the Xeon W-3400/3500 series, this motherboard can use eight memory channels (a configuration that provides basic bandwidth using eight memory modules). Therefore, to ensure bandwidth with the maximum number of memory channels, we considered a Xeon W8-8 and eight memory modules.
■ Keywords・What is Femtet? Femtet is a finite element method simulation software developed by Murata Software Co., Ltd. It is capable of coupled analysis in eight analysis fields: electric field, magnetic field, electromagnetic wave, heat conduction, stress, fluid, piezoelectricity, and sound wave.
