A customer involved in life science research contacted us seeking a workstation to operate Cell Ranger and Imaris.
The budget is around 200 million yen, and the top priority is to have a memory capacity of 256GB or more.
The client has no plans to use the GPU much, and would like to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows.
Based on the information you provided, we proposed the following structure:
CPU | Intel Xeon W5-2565X 3.20GHz (up to 3.0GHz at TB4.8) 18C/36T |
memory | Total 512GB DDR5 5600 REG ECC 64GB x 8 |
storage | 2TB SSD M.2 NVMe Gen4 |
Video | NVIDIA RTX4000 Ada 20GB (DisplayPort x4) |
network | on board (2.5GbE x1 /10GbE x1) |
Housing + power supply | Mid-tower case 1000W 80PLUS PLATINUM |
OS | Microsoft Windows 11 Professional 64bit |
Others(1) | Ubuntu 24.04 dual boot setup |

It is structured according to the conditions communicated by the customer.
LCD displays, USB hubs, built-in wireless LAN, etc. are additional options specified by the customer.
The recommended specs for Imaris vary depending on the amount of data handled.
The required specifications for Imaris vary depending on the volume of image data to be processed.
As a guideline, memory capacity should be at least 1.5 times the image data capacity, and if the images to be processed are complex, we recommend using a high-end GPU such as RTX2000 Ada or higher.
Also supports shipping with Imaris pre-installed
This example configuration does not include an Imaris license or installation, but please feel free to contact us if you are interested.
If you are introducing an Imaris license for the first time, Oxford Instruments will provide you with a demo to confirm which license is most suitable for you and then provide you with a quote.
