A client involved in health research enquired about introducing a workstation that would allow multiple people (approximately five people) to perform analysis work simultaneously within their company.
The software they plan to use is Cell Ranger and Qiime2, and they would like to use Ubuntu 22.04 as the OS.
The configuration will include 128GB or more of memory, a GeForce RTX 2080 or higher GPU, and 2TB or more of storage, and we are considering a design that allows for future expandability and simultaneous use by multiple users.

CPU and memory configuration
In anticipation of simultaneous analysis by multiple users, the system is equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6530 (32 cores) processors, enabling highly parallel processing with a total of 64 cores.
Assuming five people use the system simultaneously, each person can use around 12 cores.
The memory is 512GB DDR5 ECC.
The minimum requirement for Cell Ranger is 64GB, but more than enough capacity is provided to accommodate simultaneous analysis of multiple individuals.
GPU selection
The RTX 2080 that was initially requested was an older generation, and there were concerns about compatibility with the latest analysis environments, so we decided to go with the GeForce RTX 5080 16GB.
It is also highly compatible with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, and is configured to prevent switching to CPU processing due to insufficient VRAM.
Storage and Expansion
The storage is equipped with 1TB for the system and 8TB of NVMe Gen4 SSD for data storage.
It is assumed that the system area and each user's data storage area will be mounted on separate storage.
SSDs tend to slow down as free space decreases, so by preventing the free space on the system SSD from decreasing, we maintain stable processing speeds.
Reference: Can an SSD be used faster if it has a certain amount of free space?
OS and support
The OS is Ubuntu 22.04, which has high compatibility with bioanalysis tools in a Linux environment, and we have a proven track record of delivering it to many customers.
Please note that support for Ubuntu 22.04 will end in April 2027, so the configuration is designed with future upgrades in mind.
