Metashape workstation (assuming processing of 5000 APS-C size images)


We were consulted about introducing a high-performance PC to handle Metashape, QGIS, and Blender.
The system requires processing power that can analyze up to 5000 still images, each 15-20MB in size, in 1-2 days.

About CPU

Metashape tends to run faster on high-clock CPUs than on multi-core CPUs.
For this reason, we used the Intel Xeon W5-2555X (3.30GHz / maximum 4.8GHz with TB3.0) in this configuration.
This CPU has a high operating clock speed and is designed for a workstation platform, so it can maintain stable performance for long periods of time.
It also supports ECC memory and large-capacity memory configurations, making it suitable for research applications that handle large amounts of data.

Memory configuration

When analyzing up to 5,000 images, memory usage increases significantly depending on the processing step, so the initial configuration is set to 256GB in consideration of stable operation.
By utilizing the available slots and adding modules of the same capacity, the configuration can be expanded up to 512GB.
Expanding the scale of analysis can be handled flexibly without the need to replace the system.

GPU selection

Some steps in Metashape involve high-speed parallel processing using CUDA.
Taking into consideration processing speed and the possibility of installing multiple cards in the future, we selected the NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 (32GB).
Please note that if you install multiple units, you will need to change the power capacity.
