Assisting Hand Assessment AHA 18-18?
Assisting Hand Assessment AHA 18-18is a tool that evaluates the ability to use both hands in coordination for children with reduced one-handed function due to hemiplegia or other conditions.
It is aimed at children aged 18 months to 18 years with unilateral cerebral palsy or congenital brachial plexus palsy (BPP).Specifically, play tests and video observations will be used to determine how effectively the patient is able to use the assisting hand during bimanual activities.
Major features
- Measures functional level with quantitative score from 0-100
- Can be used to set the difficulty level of individual intervention
- A scientific and playful evaluation method that puts less burden on children
- Data comparison and research possible using globally common evaluation indicators
Examples of main uses
This is a play test using multiple-choice toys, allowing test subjects to have fun and stress-free.The situation is observed on video, and the coordination of both hands and the ability to use the auxiliary hand are quantified and evaluated on a four-level scale.
For example, as a tool for evaluating child development research and intervention results.AHA 18-18is considered to have high potential.
- Evaluation of the developmental stage of bimanual use ability in children with hemiplegia
- Evaluation of developmental research and intervention results
- Evaluation of functional improvement effects before and after interventions such as rehabilitation
- Judging the effectiveness of treatments such as surgery and prosthetic arm installation
AHA 18-18Because it is an internationally standardized evaluation method, it is highly reliable and provides quantitative results. It is a useful tool for tracking the developmental process of children's functional usage abilities and for evaluating treatment effects.
Specific usage method
Step 1:
Evaluation is based on a 10-15 minute play session.
- 18 months to 5 years (Small kids AHA): Play with test kit toys
- Ages 6-12 (School kids AHA): Two types of board games are used.
- 13-18 (Ad-AHA): Board game or two-hand activity (sandwich and gift task)
Step 2:
Watch the recorded video and rate 20 actions on a 4-point scale.
