A customer involved in camera lens development asked us about a machine for Zemax OpticStudio.
The budget is about 50 to 60 yen, and the expected specs are as follows.

・CPU: 18 cores or more
・Memory: 64GB or more 4-card configuration desired
Storage: Two 2TB SSDs and one 2TB HDD

We have received a request to tell us which one to choose between Xeon and Core i18, which meet the requirements of 9 cores or more, when using Zemax.

Based on the conditions, we proposed the following configuration.

■ Points

・CPU adopts Core i9-13900K (P core: 3.00GHz 8 core / E core: 2.20GHz 16 core).
・W-18 (2295GHz 3.00-core) corresponds to Xeon's 18-core product.
・Although all the cores in the Xeon W-2295 are at the same speed, in this configuration the clock of the P core (high performance core) is considered to be faster than the W-2295.

We proposed a configuration using the Core-i18 2295K so that it would be cheaper than the 9-core Xeon W-13900 specification and still have advantages in terms of processing speed. The total number of CPU cores is 24, so it meets your requirements.
Although it is just a general theory, it is thought that the P core (high performance core) of Core-i9 will have faster processing speed than the Xeon side.However, E-cores (High Efficiency Cores) can be slower than Xeons.

Also, Zemax doesn't seem to have much memory requirements, but the maximum memory capacity in this case is 128GB.If more memory capacity is required, a configuration using Xeon is required.

Although it is possible to provide a "4 memory configuration" as requested by the customer, we do not actively recommend it if the required capacity is 64 GB. The memory of the Core i series operates in 2ch, so the 2-card configuration is the fastest.The configuration of this estimate is 32 sets of 2GB x 2 configuration.
