REFLEAK: What is the NIST Leak/Recharge Simulation Program for Refrigerant Blends?

NIST's REFLEAK is a Windows-based simulation model that simulates the process of leakage and refilling of zeotropic mixtures of refrigerants.It provides an easy-to-use tool for estimating compositional changes in mixtures during gas and liquid phase leaks and refills under isothermal or adiabatic conditions.

This program uses the thermal property database REFPROP (Version 10.0) of refrigerants and thermal fluids published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).It is expected to be used in the industry because it can predict the composition change of zeotropic mixtures in industrial processes such as distillation, freezing, and washing with high accuracy.

Configuration of Leakage/Refilling Simulation Program    

  1. Preprocessor: enter the required data
  2. Calculator: Simulate the leak and refill process
  3. Post-processing part: display calculation results and print/save data and graphs

 

Main functions

  • Process selection: "leak only" and "leak/recharge"
  • Temperature selection: "constant temperature leak" and "adiabatic leak"
  • State selection: "gas phase leak" or "liquid phase leak"
  •  Choose from 71 refrigerants and up to 10 component blends plus 103 predefined blends
  • Set initial conditions and up to 10 recharge options
  • Display/Print: Graphical display of leak data, output can be saved and printed
  • Other: Help menu and user guide included
